Methods of sweating treatment

Hyperhidrosis (excessive sweat) is a rather common aesthetic problem. Despite the considerable progress in the cosmetology, the well-known methods of sweat treatment such as deodorants, anti-perspirants, remain only the methods of short-term relief. The up-to-date techniques in aesthetic medicine are hypodermic injections of botulinum toxin type A – Dysport, Botox. The medicine blocks temporally the transmission of the nerve impulse to sweat glands, inhibits the sweating inside the treated area. Besides, the ample opportunity to combine different methods provides excellent results.

The effect of “dry” axillae, feet skin, hands after sweat therapy using botulinum toxin lasts in average for 6-8 months and noticeable on 2nd-3rd day. It is important to note that the excessive sweat is blocked only locally and does not influence the thermo- and water-exchange between the human skin and the environment. The botulinum toxin ejection is practically painless in the underarm zone, moderately painless when treating hands and feet, but application anesthesia can be implemented when necessary.

This method is very popular through all over the world, it is efficient, convenient as it brings comfort into every-day life of sweat suffers or of those who wants to exclude the usage of deodorants in spring and summer, and for preventive measures against mycotic infection and bad smell when hyperhidrosis of the feet.

Besides the injection method of excessive sweat therapy there exist as well surgical procedures. This can be a local destruction of the secretory part of the glands using the method which in general resembles the liposuction of the underarm area and on the other hand the procedures aiming the alteration of the innervation which controls the functional activity of sweat glands. The both methods cannot be compared to the ambulant therapy of the excessive sweating as they are surgical procedures and before resort to them a surgeon must be consulted with, all the risks and complications must be considered and they must be compared to the potential effect of the sweat reduction.
